Our Executive Team

W. A. Brown, Founder, CEO & President

 

William A. Brown is a seasoned technology executive with many years of experience in global leadership, specializing in hands-on transformations, cloud-native architectures, governance, and implementing AI technologies and compound AI.

 

He is an entrepreneur, technical leader, fractional CxO, enterprise architect, inventor, mentor, mentee, and is incurably curious. He provides strategic direction and expertise to companies and individuals.

 

As an IBM Distinguished Engineer Emeritus, he led transformative initiatives helping global giants to modernize, adopt, deliver, consume, and digest new technologies.

 

This is a partial list of customers with whom he has worked: Citigroup, Boeing, Walmart, Lloyds of London, Northern Trust, Bank Estado of Chile, Bank of Colombia, Etihad, ANZ Bank, Siam Commercial Bank, Saudi Ministry of Communications and Information, US Social Security, Pension System in the Russian Federation, Qatari Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, TSA, and many others.

C. Paul Immanuel, CIO

Paul Immanuel is a seasoned technologist, having worked primarily at ITT and IBM. While at IBM, he obtained several patents, published a number of articles on Network technology, and received corporate innovation awards. His technology experience includes years in hardware design and development, software design, as a technical architect, and the lead in several major initiatives over a long career at IBM. As an IBM Global Services Senior Consultant, Paul led transformative initiatives, helped global giants modernize, and led workflow management systems for large companies.

A snapshot of customers with whom he has worked includes: Ameriprise, Bank of Nova Scotia, American Express, Norvartis (Basel), and many smaller companies and non-profit organizations.

Paul is founder and CEO of Immanuel Consulting Services, LLC, a company that uses advanced technologies to help companies grow. In the last two years, he has focused on data privacy, data science, and the use of Robotic Process Automation to manage data efficiently for streamlining operations.

Paul is an electrical engineering graduate of North Carolina State University. He has had additional master’s level education in electrical engineering and computer science.

Paul has helped American defense infrastructure and businesses that cater to the American military. Paul is a North Carolina Executive Roundtable (NCER) member and serves on the board of directors. Paul is a Life Senior Member of the Institute of Electrical & Electronics Engineers (IEEE), a member of the American Scientific Affiliation and a member of the American Association for the Advancement of Science.

Paul has also served on multiple boards of non-profit organizations and has helped them with their IT infrastructures.

Nicholas F. Kovacic, COO

Nick Kovacic brings many years of experience in leading technology companies; with extensive Business Development, Marketing, and Sales experience in the Telecommunications and On-Line Marketplace. Nick was one of the original members of Defywire, a WDC based Mobile Software Company. Nick was a Partner, with Phil McKinney at The Techtrend Group (TTG), a WDC based consulting firm.
Prior to TTG; Nick was a seed investor of WebCal (New York, NY). While working with WebCal, Mr. Kovacic raised private venture capital, launched the WebCal brand, and orchestrated a successful sale to Yahoo! (Now the Yahoo! Free Calendar Service).
Nick was VP of Business Development of the Vicinity Corporation, a pioneer in Digital Mapping/GPS/LBS/Web-based company, which was purchased by MSFT in May of 2003 (off the public market; following an IPO in 2000).
Other accomplishments include as an investor and advisor in a number of firms including; eGuard (Gator) which subsequently closed a follow-on $20 Million round with Menlo Ventures; and Ventaso, which raised follow-on funding of $30M from Norwest and others.
In total, Nick’s portfolio companies have raised more than $200 million dollars. Currently, Nick maintains his ties to the WDC Metro Technology Community as an advisor to DBT Data Inc. (Ashburn, VA), Otolith Labs (WDC), Welbeck Security LLC (Bethesda, MD), (Exited) ScinDocs Inc. (Boston, MA), Vocinity (Martinsburg, WV). He is a founding member of the U.S. Naval Academy High Tech Council (The Wardroom). Nick holds a BA in Economics. He worked at University of MD in College Park as a Mentor to the UMD Tech Entrepreneur Program at the Robert Smith School of Business.
Specialties: Extensive General Management, Business Development, Marketing and Sales experience in Wireless Data and Telecommunications, VoIP, RFID, NLP, BlockChain, and On-Line Commerce/Marketplaces. Nick has expertise in both the Commercial and Federal Markets.
Nick currently is the Managing Partner at Nicholas Companies, LLC in Baltimore, MD, Washington DC, and Raleigh, NC.    

Robert Reuss, CFO

Bob has a long history in corporate management, business deal-making, and finance. He was the financial officer for International Dairy Queen and Standard Fabrics during successful IPOs.
Following his role at Standard Fabrics, he was a founder and President of Reuss, Thiss and Company which turned around management for private companies in the upper Midwest. He served as President of Med CareAssociates, a nursing home management company with over 700 employees. He sold his interest to acquire H. A. Rogers Company in Minneapolis. He subsequently was recruited as President and 25% owner of Linga Financial Group, a business broker and financing firm in Minneapolis since 1945. While at Lingate he organized an investment group to purchase Bethel Marine where he was a 25% owner. Bethel did two acquisitions and became the second largest boat dealer and service center in Minnesota.
He left Lingate to become Vice President of Northstar Industries which did middle market deal brokering and financing nationwide. From Northstar he was recruited by Maven Securities (a NASDAQ member firm) when he was a registered financial principal with the (SEC) as Senior VP for M&A.
He has assisted in structuring and financing numerous acquisitions and startups as a principal, advisor, investor and a fee based intermediary.
A resident of Raleigh since 1998, Bob has worked with a number of companies located in the Research Triangle area including North American Video, Endacea, Smart On Line, Ivis, The Bob Barker Company, Domicile Home, Arius Pharmaceuticals (now BDSI on NASDAQ), Howard Perry and Walston, Kudos Information Systems, Maverick BioFuels, BionCR, Open Sky Technologies, ROGO, Bldg25, Firewurst Holdings and Your Local Greens as CFO, Director or financial advisor to the CEO. From 2007 to 2017 he served as VP for Business Development at Vaco in Raleigh and did projects for Vaco clients as well as supporting the Executive Placement activities.
Bob has been involved in Bldg 25 since inception and served as the initial CFO. He is a shareholder.
Bob is active in the North Carolina Executive Roundtable (NCER), The Research Triangle Energy Consortium and the Raleigh Economic Discussion Forum. Locally, he has served on the Board of Directors of CED (Finance Committee) Maverick Biofuels, Firewurst Holdings, Your Local Greens and the Board of Advisors of the Greater Raleigh Chamber of Commerce and the Chamber of Commerce  of Bath, NC.

Bob is a graduate of Purdue University with a Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering and the Krannert School of Business at Purdue with an MS in Industrial Management. He attended the Advanced Management Program at Wharton. He was a CPA in Minnesota for many years and served as Chairman of the Members in Industry for the Minnesota Society of CPA’s.

Mohan Thimmadasaiah, CTO

Monhan lives in the intersection of business and technology, working with founders, business owners, product leads to help define, design and implement the right solutions.

Kerrie Holley

Google AI Executive, Optum Health SVP Technology Fellow, IBM

Kerrie is a visionary leader in the field of healthcare technology, with a proven track record of driving innovation and transformation at industry giants such as Google, Optum, Cisco and IBM. Kerrie retired from the industry and Google was his last executive role. Prior to his tenure at Google, Kerrie made significant contributions to Optum’s technological advancement as the company’s first Technology Fellow and Senior Vice President.

Prior to Optum, Kerrie was a VP and CTO for an analytics and automation software portfolio at Cisco. He was appointed to IBM Fellow, IBM’s highest honor for a scientist or engineer, by the CEO, Sam Palmisano. His last role was in IBM Research with a focus was on cognitive computing. Before joining IBM Research he was the CTO for IBM’s Global Business Services for the Applications Innovation organization.
IBM Watson achieved fame in 2011 when it competed on the popular quiz show Jeopardy! and defeated two human champions. Kerrie appeared on ABC News and in a TED talk the next day describing Watson’s next job. He is the author of three books, the most recent being published in 2024, “LLM and Generative AI in Healthcare, The Next Frontier.”

Kerrie is a graduate of DePaul University in Chicago with a degree in mathematics. Kerrie also holds a Juris Doctorate degree from DePaul University. In 2016, DePaul conferred a Doctor of Humane Letters. Kerrie holds over 30 patents. In 2023 he was elected to the National Academy of Engineering, election to the National Academy of Engineering is among the highest professional distinctions accorded to an engineer.

Byron Lawson

Jim Cobb

Marketing and Strategy Executive for Exxon Emeritus, CEO Bloodhound

Born in Henderson NC. Received BS in Business Administration from Barton College. Received MBA from Wake Forest University. Over career worked for Exxon Company USA and then Howard Merrell & Partners (HM&P) Worked from Account Executive up to Chief Operating Officer at HM&P. Led a group of investors to purchase HM&P and served as CEO for 11 years. In 2017 closed HM&P and formed The Bloodhound Group to focus more on brand consulting.

The Bloodhound Group provides neuroscience-based qualitative insights, market and customer segmentation research, brand strategy development and at the client’s request program implementation including creative concepts and production, and media planning and placement, social media planning and implementation.  

Was elected to Barton College Board of Directors and serve on the College Executive Committee responsible for Student Enrollment. Most recently as also served as Adjunct Professor and Mentor to North Carolina State University’s Poole’s Graduate School of Management’s TEC Program.

Been married to Suzanne Cobb for 40 years and have three boys: James Joseph and Jacob. Two daughter-in-laws: Laura and Paige. Member of Fletcher’s Chapel United Methodist Church.

Gary Burnette

Gary Burnette brings IT Executive leadership, especially in sales and marketing, to Athlumin.
